Settling my early morning sleep-deprived mind, I refocused now on the bait box, where my small bait catapult lay atop a heap of candy-coated warriors. I grabbed a handful and poured them into the awaiting ballistic bucket. Once the payload was full, I pulled back on the elastic band and took aim.
Parked. Engine off. The doors shut, and the roar of the river revives my mind. The blue sky and looming Rocky Mountain peaks strike deep within my soul. Fly rod in hand, I step off down the trail towards the slithering abyss. For I am home, sweet home.
No, I am not talking about the cartoon! I am talking about the best place to fish for trophy trout (arguably) in Colorado. It was only a couple of days ago, on the 27th of April we saw the opening day at Spinney Mountain Reservoir for the 2019 season, and today May 1st, the south boat ramp at Antero Reservoir opens up; with the north boat ramp following suite a couple weeks later on May 25th. Last but not least, we saw Eleven Mile Reservoir open up for boating on the 29th of April. So officially, the 2019 South Park season is well underway!
